Annie Harding KidsLingo FranchiseAbout Frenchtastic & Spanishtastic

At Spanishtastic & Frenchtastic, we are dedicated to teaching languages to young children from birth to 7 years in a fun and inspiring way. We use music and songs, games, story-telling and drama to bring the language to life and inspire our little learners. Our NEW baby programme has just launched around the country – a unique, musical and multi-sensory class with a flavour of French or Spanish for babies from birth to 18 months old.

Annie Harding is a Frenchtastic franchisee in Cardiff and tells us her business success story.

If Annie, if you could first of all introduce yourself
Hi, I’m Annie Harding, I live in Cardiff with my husband and 2 children, Millie aged 9 and Lola aged 5.
What is the Franchise Company you represent? Please could you tell us a little bit about their history.

I represent Frenchtastic & Spanishtastic. It was set up by Anna Neville in Sutton Coldfield four years ago. I was the first franchisee and I haven’t looked back since! I run many classes myself, as well as having another lady working with me and yet another one joining soon.

Kidslingo Language FranchiseHow did you come to join Frenchtastic?
I was getting more and more unhappy with my marketing office job. Although I worked part time, I was made to feel this was very inconvenient and I did not feel valued. I had already looked into some other language franchise options but they never felt quite right. I came across an advert for Frenchtastic by accident and it was the perfect time to make the jump

Why did you feel that Franchising was the best option for you?
I wanted the freedom to be my own boss but work within a framework that was tried and tested. Frenchtastic offered me that perfect combination.

Did you have any previous experience of franchising or running a business?
I had no experience of franchising or running my own business, although I did have a background in marketing which comes in very useful

Tell me a bit more about what you do
I offer French, and coming soon Spanish, classes for children from birth to 7 years. I run classes for three age groups – birth to 18 months, 18 months to 4 years and 4 to 7 years. I run classes in local halls, schools, nurseries and in people’s homes. Frenchtastic & Spanishtastic’s approach is all about learning through fun so we use loads of songs, games, activities and stories to make the lessons really engaging and exciting for the kids.

What about support for you? Tell us what help you get as a franchisee

There is a very thorough training programme and then ongoing support. I know that the lesson plans have been thought through and tested out many times. The kit bag and music provided enable me to deliver great classes that really engage the kids in the language. If I have any questions, there is always someone on the end of the phone and we have an online forum where other franchisees can ask questions or share news and achievements.

What have been the best and worst things that have happened since you’ve been in business?
The best thing is being my own boss and seeing the children I teach speak French. I’m very proud to say that in my first year I was a finalist in Best Activity Leader in the International What’s On For Juniors Awards 2014.” I don’t think there are any bad things really.

Kidslingo Language FranchiseHow do you fit in running your business with your family?
I only run classes during the day so that I am always there to pick up the children. I have 2 after school classes and I have an arrangement with another working mum at school. I can earn a great living, really enjoy what I do and still spend lots of time with my family!

What 3 words would you use to describe your ‘business self’?
Determined, focussed, efficient

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to get into franchising?
Do it, find the right franchise for you and go for it. Obviously if you are interested in teaching French or Spanish to kids, then THIS is the right franchise!

If you could go back in time, would you change anything?
I wish I’d done it sooner.

How much is it to become a franchisee for your company and what do people have to do if they want to find out more?
At Frenchtastic & Spanishtastic, we have developed 3 flexible payment options, starting from just £500 for the single language programme, specifically designed to suit your own personal financial circumstances and the hours that you want to work.
